Now that I'm kind of back on the blogging kick, I thought I'd catch you up on my recent move and apartment upgrade! As you may recall, I lived in a little studio apartment for the last few years. Studio living wasn't so bad, but I definitely had to get creative with my furniture rearrangement and obviously sacrificed having a real bedroom! In fact, I sold my queen sized bed before I even moved in because I knew that it wouldn't really fit (plus it was a terribly cheap mattress that was time to replace anyway.)
I slept on my couch for a few weeks until I figured out how I could create a bedroom! Here's the shot of what my apartment looked like sans sleeping area shortly after I moved in...
Eventually I decided to buy a memory foam TWIN XL mattress and a simple bedframe off of Amazon since it could be shipped right to my door. Compared to my couch and my old awful mattress, the memory foam was a HUGE improvement!! The only trick was figuring out furniture placement. I know I tried a few different set-ups prior to snapping these pics (and please forgive the poor quality...I had to screen shot them from my Instagram), but this was the placement that finally worked for me! I basically pulled the sofa away from the wall and floated it in the middle of the room and placed a small table with two chairs behind it creating a dining room! I used my hutch as my TV stand, bookshelf, and storage for some china and random kitchen stuff and my aqua dresser for clothes, makeup, and anything else that needed a home.
And the bed went into the corner of the room as inconspicuously, as possible. Believe it or not, I ended up getting use to the twin size and the fact that it was extra long helped since I'm 5'9".
I actually really liked this set up and got use to the amount of space I had, plus I loved the location of my apartment, but when faced with a rent increase, I had to start thinking about other options. The Great Apartment Search of 2016 started on September 30th and by October 2nd, I had found a new place! There were so many great things about the new place...including that fact that it was a brand new build, was located closer to work, and had a real bedroom. God is so good!
I had a month to pack everything up but before I knew it, it was moving day and time to say goodbye to my sweet little studio...
And of course, I painted the place just a few weeks before I moved out...
Like any moving day, the first and 2nd days are always a mess, but believe it or not, I love the process of unpacking! I look at it as a fresh opportunity to create a space I love. I love deciding which cabinets to use for certain things and figuring out furniture placement - I find it so relaxing!! Does anyone else??
Anyway, since I always love a good before and after comparison, here's a shot of the initial chaos...
And here's how it looked after everything was unpacked...
And a quick peek into the living room...
I just love this new space! I can't believe I've been here almost 6 months!
Things have definitely changed from the pics above as I've gotten settled and made it feel more like home. I love having a bedroom again and will be sharing that transformation very soon!
Bring in colour sample from your wall treatment when considering furniture. You might fall for a piece on the showroom floor only to realize it clashes with everything in your home, but when you get it home it may not match at all. Thanks From traditional vanity units
