Long Beach Antique Market.

On Sunday morning a few friends and I braved the cold temps and wind to explore the Long Beach Antique Market! And by cold, I mean 50's - which is practically freezing by Southern California standards! The rain and cold kept a lot of vendors away, but it was still a great turn out!
There was definitely an eclectic blend of merchandise...see for yourself!
There were crates.
Vintage scales like this one that my friend Jill snapped up for $16! She passed on the sleeping doll.
Mannequins arms, anyone??
If arms aren't really your style, how about heads?
There were faux tree stumps, too! These had some sort of plywood top...but they looked good!
This ornate mirror was beautiful!!
More vintage crates.

This barn door was only $1000 and they deliver :-)
One booth was full of cute vintage fans.
And there was a unusually high amount of taxidermy related items.
I don't think a can spray paint would work on this guy, so I went home without him :-(

Overall, it was a super fun morning and for my first visit - I was not disappointed! I definitely plan on going back! Oh and admission is only $5 and it's every 3rd Sunday of the month - rain or shine! So if you're in the area, you should check it out!

Next big project.

In my last post about the cane chairs, I hinted that I bought something else very special from the Harbaugh's.

Well...here it is!
All 6 foot 3 inches of it!

I have been browsing my friend Craig's list for awhile hoping to find an amazing deal on a piece of vintage furniture that I could transform. Then this one practically fell in my lap! It's in great condition and it became mine for just $20! I should mention this is the 2nd dresser I've obtained for $20...it just seems to be the magic number! You can see that other one here.

But back to this one!

As you can see, it's pretty long (75 inches!) and since I was trying to fit in a seating area, I brought in my grandmother's solo cane chair and moved the two cane chairs to the living room.
To finish out the space, I finally hung my headboard and moved my tripod lamp to the corner. That poor lamp has been roaming this house for the last few weeks just waiting for home - I think I finally found it!
And I'm once again using my suitcase table as my nightstand.
Unlike the chairs which will probably remain in their current state for awhile, I have immediate plans for this dresser and all it's amazing details!

I hope transform it into something stunning, but the details shall remain top secret! I'm hoping to get it done this weekend, so stay tuned!

And again, a special thank you to the Harbaugh's for such a great deal and to Angelo who helped me get it to my place in less than a hour after purchase!!

Best gift ever.

Happy Monday!! I have some wonderful vintage furniture finds to share with you today!

Late last week, I received an email from Kathy - two of my friends' mom. Kathy's mom passed away earlier this year and she has been working on cleaning out the last remaining pieces of furniture from her home. She asked if I would be interested in any of her mom's things - specifically two cane chairs. Having just done that with my grandparent's home, I know how much sentiment each item holds and was honored that she was willing to give anything to me!

Kathy had seen the cane chair that I previously made over and thought I might be interested in the chairs that belonged to her mom.  And the answer, of course, was yes, yes, a million times yes!!

Isn't she beautiful??
The chairs are gorgeous and have such a great vintage flair!  I love the character, the tufting and the fact that they mean so much to the Harbaugh family!

I tried them in a few different arrangements once I got them home to try to find the perfect spot.
This one was good...but takes up a little too much room!
I shifted everything to the corner but it didn't feel quite right either.  Keep in mind that this room is my bedroom and I was trying to create a seating area but with my bed, nightstand, desk and the other amazing piece of furniture I bought from the Harbaugh's (another entry to come on that!), it just wasn't cutting it.

So I moved them into the living room...
Ahhh...perfect!!

Having them on each side of my great grandmother's serpentine dresser feels just right!
And just for fun...no that's not a computer monitor. That's my teeny tiny TV :-)

Eventually a flat screen will hang on that wall but until I can show you that, let's take another look at this stunning chair!!
See...you hardly remember the TV, right?
